Welcome/Introduction

Welcome to My Kitchen Madness, a site dedicated to making money writing about food.

My name is Mike Hultquist, and I am, among other things, a foodie. I am not a formally trained chef, but to me, cooking is an art you can acquire on your own through experimentation, passion, plenty of reading and practice. I have always greatly enjoyed cooking and for many years I explored that passion in the kitchen and garden. I flat out cannot stop thinking about food, and inventing new recipes or trying those found from various sources is beyond fun.

I have worked with my wife, Patty, on many endeavors and our Madness achievements are some of our favorites.

A little about us…

We are both web site developers. Since 1998, we have owned and operated Quist Interactive where we build and maintain web sites of all sizes. We are search engine optimization experts, Google AdWords experts and ecommerce experts. This is what we do for a living, at least part of it, anyway. Patty is a highly skilled programmer and SEO expert with a degree in Computer Science, and she loves food as well.

I am also a writer. I have English degrees from Northern Illinois University where I studied literature, linguistics and technical communications. I have published short fiction and novels, and have sold two feature film screenplays which have been produced. I also write my own cookbooks.

One day, we decided to put all of these passions together and build a web site called Jalapeno Madness. It began as a simple hobby, a way for us to learn more about web site development when the Internet was still new. It was our playground, our own experimental web site and we learned a great deal, not only about how to build a web site, but how to make money off of one, which brings me to the point of all this.

There are many, many food web sites and blogs across the Internet. Some of them are absolutely fabulous, some aren’t so much. Some of them write and publish about food for no reason at all other than to share their passion with the world. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that, but if you’re like me, you’d like to see your passion turn into a few dollars in your pocket. I’ve heard some food writers say you can’t really make much money writing about food or exploring your enthusiasm for cooking, but we’re here to say that isn’t true. And we have the web sites to prove it.

We won’t promise that you’ll suddenly be able to retire to your coastal mansion with your food web site, but there is no reason you can’t expect to earn thousands of dollars per year if you apply yourself, are highly prolific, dedicated and find an extremely popular niche. The reason we know this is because we are already doing it.

The goal of this site is to explore with you ways to earn money with your own food site. There are many ways to earn money. Not all of them might work for you but everything is worth trying. We know what has worked for us and it is an evolving process. In practice, this information will work for any type of niche information site, but since we focus on food, we’ll stick mostly to food, though we’ve applied this to many sites over the years to good success.

With all that said, let’s go earn some money with our food web sites.
